Mother’s Day in Venezuela: The Evolution of a Celebration with Significant Origins

In Venezuela, the history of Mother’s Day dates back to May 24, 1921, when Valencia (Edo. Carabobo) was held on the first “Day of the Three Mothers”.

This initiative was led by Dr. Jesús María Arcay Smith, president of the association “Caridad y Concordia” who managed to make it official by the Legislative Council.

In the following years, 82 Venezuelan Municipal Councils decreed this celebration until in 1924 a law of the National Congress established “Three Mothers Day” as an annual holiday throughout the national territory.

Over time, this celebration adapted to international festivities and gradually lost its original name. Nowadays, we know this day simply as “Mother’s Day”.

It is important to note that other countries have also adopted different dates to celebrate mothers based on significant national events. An example is Nicaragua, where they chose May 30, the birthday of President Anastacio Somoza’s mother-in-law as their date to honor mothers.

Mother’s Day in Venezuela has undergone an evolution since its inception but it is still a special occasion to honor and recognize the love and sacrifice of Venezuelan mothers, as well as to value their importance in society.

Mother’s Day: A Tribute to Motherhood in Panama and Argentina

In different corners of the world Mother’s Day is celebrated on different dates each with its own special meaning.

In Panama, December 8, the day of the Immaculate Conception has been chosen to honor all mothers. Meanwhile, in Argentina, this commemoration takes place on the third Sunday of October probably because in the Southern Hemisphere spring blooms between the months of September and December.

It is worth mentioning that Lebanon has also adopted Spring Day as its Mother’s Day.

Regardless of the specific date, it’s important to celebrate it, since the word “mom” is the first word that takes on profound meaning in our lives. Mom is that being who knows us before anyone else loves us before we were born and does not skimp on sacrifices and care.

Throughout history, mothers have demonstrated unconditional love for their children without limits or conditions. They are teachers, friends, counselors and even little fairies, capable of turning dreams into realities.

Since ancient times, mothers have been recognized for the special qualities that nature has bestowed on them. They are there in times of illness or problems, watching out for us and sacrificing everything so that we don’t lack anything.

They scold us when we make mistakes, advise us and even punish us because they know that they are preparing us for life which is not always easy.

On Mother’s Day, let’s remember and honor all mothers those courageous and loving women who play a fundamental role in our lives, guiding us, inspiring us and giving us their unconditional love.

The Unparalleled Maternal Labor: A Lasting Tribute

A mother’s job is not easy at all. Each of her children is a unique being with different needs, and she always seeks to provide them with what they require.

Mom takes on multiple roles in her daily life: she is a cook, a washerwoman, a teacher, a doctor, a magician, an inventor, a comedian, an artist and even a professional or worker contributing to the livelihood of the household.

For everything she is and what she represents, the mother deserves the best every day but once a year her day is celebrated in a special way. Verses, cards, flowers, gifts, mornings, school festivities and various details are being prepared to make this day a truly exceptional moment.

Although mom plays a fundamental role in our lives, sometimes we forget that she also has rights. Yes! Mom has the right to rest, walk, have fun, buy things she needs, take care of her appearance, enjoy good food and ultimately, live in peace and happiness.

Let us celebrate all mothers in their day, young women, old women, those who are no longer there and those who are far away.

The best gift we can offer them is to recognize their effort, dedication and dedication, respect their rights and forgive their mistakes and weaknesses since they do everything out of love and because they are also human beings who need our care and support.

However, the most important thing is that every day of the year we must help her and show her our love, just as she does with us.

We can express how much we love her, order our things and not leave them lying around, thank her for the food she prepares, study diligently and give her our best smile every day.

Let’s remember that the most valuable gift we can offer you is not something material. For her, our love, respect and constant gratitude for everything she has done for us are, without a doubt, the best gift.

Mother’s Day: Celebrating Love and the Greatness of Motherhood

The greatness of motherhood far exceeds the celebration of a single day. As José Fernández del Cacho rightly said:

“A mother has something of God and a lot of an angel”

That’s why we should thank all mothers, our earthly angels, for being the ones who truly care for us.

In honor of mothers who defend and fight for family unity and harmony, like Julia Ward Howe and Anna Jarvis we wish them a very happy Mother’s Day.

May they enjoy it in the company of their loved ones and receive our sincerest thanks for their invaluable contribution to the family and to our community.
